NCBI New Chapter Director
March 2022
NCBI Monterey County Appoints a New Leader
The National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Monterey County is pleased to announce the appointment of Victoria Mills as Chapter Director. Mills currently serves as a student affairs professional at CSU Monterey Bay.

NCBIMC Chapter Director, Sue Parris is stepping down after 29 years, but will continue supporting the local Chapter and the national organization. She will still be doing the work that she loves, but from a different vantage point, with both new and long-time partners. Sue is excited to help Victoria transition to her new position and said, “Victoria’s commitment to equity and inclusion, her systems thinking and her experience as an educator will be invaluable to NCBI’s programs in schools and in the community.”

Victoria Mills is a professional educator who dedicates her time and effort towards fighting for equity, justice and inclusion. She Initially moved to Monterey County to begin her career in education after graduating from UC Riverside. She is a former employee of the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, where she taught History and Ethnic Studies. She currently works as a student affairs professional at CSU Monterey Bay.

Her commitment to fighting against racism and injustice began when she was a high school student in her hometown of San Francisco, CA. Her personal experience with discrimination and being from several disadvantaged identity groups is what sparked her passion for the type of work that NCBI pursues. Victoria became involved in leadership positions with different organizations that fight for equity and inclusion as a teenager and continued that work as a college student and a working adult. Victoria is excited to bring her experience and dedication to NCBI Monterey County and hopes to continue building on the strong foundation that was laid by the founders. Mills said, “I am extremely excited to begin my work as the new Chapter Director for NCBI Monterey County. I’m looking forward to continuing to fight for equity and inclusion in the area and building relationships with organizations and members of the community”

Board President Elena Loomis described Victoria Mills as “a perfect fit who is ready to take on the challenges of the job. Her experience with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in a variety of settings mean she is ready to take on the work of NCBI in Monterey.” Board members unanimously and enthusiastically support the selection of Ms. Mills. Her leadership and communication skills are perfectly suited to the position of Chapter Director. The board looks forward to working with Mills as NCBIMC continues to provide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs in Monterey County.
