2017 Friends

We could not have accomplished what we did in the last twelve months without you.  So, thank you, thank you, thank you for being a Friend of NCBI! As you know, NCBI’s work is needed more than ever, and that is why we are asking that you renew your membership today. We are determined to be responsive to the changing social climate in our area. Recently the Los Angeles Times published an article stating that hate-crimes across the state have risen 15% since last Fall.  In our quiet little arena of Monterey County we suffer those incidents as well, without the splash of the media.  Organizations here are actively working against such incidents and NCBI training is one of the avenues they are taking. Invaluably, NCBI continues to build coalitions with local groups that work along similar lines to strengthen our communities in understanding and purpose. With the perspectives gained from working in those coalitions, we increase our effectiveness. As a result, we will hold the second event in our CommUnity Conversations on Saturday, September 30.  We are in talks with Monterey High School and a middle school in Salinas to establish NCBI programs on their campuses to train young leaders.  We’re starting our second year on the South County Law Enforcement project.  We’re excited about an upcoming initiative with Whites for Racial Equity to do training on white privilege and structural racism. We are asking you to re-enlist, renew your membership and continue to make a difference as a part of NCBI. Thank you for your support! In the spirit of community,

Elena Loomis, Board President                   Sue Parris, Chapter Director
