2015 Hate Has No Business Here

Dear NCBI Members and Supporters, We cannot remain silent. As a Diversity organization fighting discrimination – we see a tide of suffocating xenophobia and hate-filled rhetoric rising all around us. We want to make it clear to Muslims, immigrants and refugees in our community that they are welcome and that we stand by their side. So we ask you to join NCBI and Move-On by putting up this sign in businesses, schools, libraries, churches, synagogues, mosques etc. that reads, “Hate has no business here.” If you’re a local business owner, will you join by putting up a sign in your window? If you’re not a business owner, will you print out the sign and ask local businesses or gathering places in your community to post it? When you’ve put up your poster, please post your action on our Facebook Event page, “Hate has no business here.”  so we know you’re participating. You can also help by taking this quick Move-On survey so the organizers know where you plan on hanging your poster. Since the San Bernardino mass shooting, there has been a terrifying spike in brutal hate crimes largely targeting Muslims – death threats, arson, individual attacks that involve throwing hot coffee and stones, disgusting name calling, and more. At a basic human level, we’ve sensed the fear in our friends and neighbors. And we knew we had to respond.
MoveOn is partnering with Main Street Alliance to make sure this xenophobia-shattering message reaches every corner of our country at a time when it’s needed most. And now with your help, NCBI Monterey County is joining the movement.
Do you know folks in our community who would join in challenging the status quo and help create a more welcoming community by putting up a sign that reads, “Hate has no business here”? If we’re successful in reaching businesses, communities of faith, nonprofit organizations, libraries, and town halls in every state, MoveOn and Main Street Alliance will publish an online directory of places that welcome everyone. Help make sure businesses and other community centers in Monterey County proudly welcome everyone, and get listed in the directory, by sharing this message. “Hate has no business here.” Thank You! The NCBI Board, Chapter Director and Staff(letter adapted from original written by Elana and Danny Swartzman)Click here to download Hate Has No Business Here poster.
