Recommitting to End Racism: Exploring Our Combined Destinies

Editors/Authors Ann Todd Jealous and Caroline T. Haskell will conduct a workshop related to their book, Combined Destinies: Whites Sharing Grief About Racism. This workshop is the second in a series, Recommitting to End Racism, presented by the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Monterey County and co-sponsored by the NAACP Monterey County Branch. Combined Destinies, a courageous anthology of 53 stories by white Americans, posits that unearned privilege has damaged the psyche of white people as well as their capacity to understand racism. Using intimate stories, some from writers who had never before spoken of these highly charged issues, Jealous and Haskell, both experienced psychotherapists skilled at facilitating dialogue about racial issues, will read selections from the book and offer the audience a chance to explore their personal experiences.

NOTE: Registrants will receive instructions for downloading excerts from the book in order to read in advance of the workshop.  Each participant will receive a copy of Combined Destinies at the workshop.

There is no fee to attend this workshop. Donations are welcome. Preregistration is required and space is limited so please register early to guarantee your space.
